First Freeze Update

Hey everyone! I wanted to write a quick post to let you know of some cool things going on.

  1. Our model tiny home has been out and about for the last several weeks. First at the HEB Feast of Sharing, then at GCR Church, and currently at First Baptist Church. Next it will be at Christ Church and other stops TBD. It has been so much fun to walk people through the home and describe our vision. Overwhelmingly the comments have been supportive and encouraging! One of the coolest parts so far happened at the HEB Feast of Sharing. First, several people we have helped over the years were attending the event and ended up stopping by the tiny house. It was so cool to hear their stories of restoration and success. One guy named T started a new chapter in his life and now has a wife, baby, and steady job and he told us that it all started with us helping to get him a birth certificate. Secondly, it was so cool to walk through the house with people who are currently homeless and envision them coming home with us.

  2. Please remember the homeless in your prayers this winter. We are pivoting a lot of our attention right now on meeting the urgent needs of our unsheltered friends. There have been many tears from people who are suffering out in the cold the last few days. Conditions like these dispel the myth that most homeless people “just want to live that way”. We have had a great number of winter gear donations and the places we have to store things are full for now. The best way to help is to contribute financially so that when we need items we can purchase them through bulk sources we use to get the best prices for the right gear.

  3. Please remember that the homeless are people just like you and me. They are someone’s child; someone’s parent, created in the image of God. Our philosophy will always be to give them only things we ourselves would use because they are equal to us in value and dignity. We want to shift the paradigm that whatever we give them is better than nothing. Our aim is to do what we do with excellency because how we love and serve the homeless reflects on how we love and serve Jesus. You will see this philosophy in our tiny home model, in our beautiful master planned village, and the depth of our relationships with our homeless brothers and sisters.

  4. Our friend Matt Maxwell of Maxwell Filmworks is finishing up a documentary he started in January of 2017 about our journey over the last few years. Be on the lookout for local screenings in 2019!

  5. Thank you all for your continued support and prayers. We can’t tell you how much your encouragement means as we long to have a place for our homeless friends to call home. We have been waiting on surveyors and engineers to define our property boundary so that we can proceed with the planning and zoning process so pray that we will get that buttoned up soon. It is hard to believe that we are approaching 2 years since TFE was founded. So much goodness has happened and it wouldn’t be possible without you!

God is calling all of us not just to see that people have dignity, but to act accordingly. Not just to know, but to do.
